A special thanks to the Portsmouth Council and local Code Club for letting our Farnborough Kids Code Club gate crash your evening. It was great to see how so many people are passionate about teaching Kids to Code. It was a great evening for networking and seeing what other people are up to.
Code Club is a nation wide network of volunteer led after school coding clubs for children aged 9-11. If your kids fall into this range then some of our course material will come from them.
After an update on what is happening throughout the UK with Code Club we got to see some demonstrations. BBC had given them pre access to the BBC Micro:bit, this will be shipping out to schools across the country soon as part of their Make It Digital campaign which hopes to encourage kids to learn to code and use technology in a fun way.
Next up was the old Choosatron which is basically like the books from the past where you could choose what happens next, instead of reading in a linear fashion you would jump about in the ebook choosing your own path. This follows a similar style but you choose what happens next in the story as its printed by clicking buttons.
All in all it was a fantastic evening looking at Raspberry Pi’s, Choosatron’s and Micro:bits – Now say that fast a few times.
